“The Little Prince” performed by Matthew Dexter
March 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
This performance is for parents, alumni, faculty & community members.
Many people will know this beautiful, gentle and funny story, written perhaps for children, but appealing to the child in all of us. It relates the adventures of a little prince who sets out from his tiny planet to discover the wider universe, who meets quaint and quirky characters and creatures on various other planets, and finally on the Earth, where he meets the pilot, the writer of the story.
De Saint-Exupéry succeeds where many modern writers fail: seemingly effortless he creates a fairy-tale with a mysterious undertow of truth. It affects us deeply, we feel the nudge and pressure of its symbols.
Matthew Dexter’s special style of dramatic storytelling owes as much to his training as an actor and to his use of speech formation. As a professional actor Matthew has explored the different qualities of the English language through his time spent in Great Britain, the US and India. In the summer of 2014 Matthew performed the role of Capesius in the Spring Valley production of The Soul’s Awakening, directed by Barbara Renold.
