Full-Time High School Teacher beginning Fall 2025
Physical Sciences and Mathematics

This position will focus on teaching high school morning lesson blocks in Physics and Chemistry and Math classes (proficiency through Algebra 2) with the possibility of teaching a middle school science and/or math class.

The successful candidate would be a caring, energetic person who is a collaborative team member and is well-versed in contemporary teaching methods. They will need to communicate effectively while demonstrating a flexible mindset. The ideal candidate will be a reflective teacher who advocates for his/her/their own needs and student’s needs, uses effective classroom management techniques, creates a positive class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and uses formative and summative assessments to guide instruction. 

This candidate should have experience making learning transparent for students, with knowledge of how to differentiate for a variety of student abilities, including international students. Experience contributing to a positive school climate and the ability to establish rapport and regular communication with parents is a must. 

Required Skills:

• A deep understanding and appreciation for adolescents.
• Knowledge of content, and the ability to learn new material quickly.
• The ability to form and maintain positive relationships with all constituents: students, parents, and colleagues.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• An interest in incorporating Waldorf principles into their teaching.

Required Qualification:
A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or a national/state certification to teach Science/Math.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Five years of related professional experience.
2. A Master’s degree in Education or in a STEM field.
3. Experience teaching Math and Science in grades 7-8.
4. Waldorf High School Certification.
   • If an otherwise well qualified applicant does not have Waldorf High School Certification, the applicant will be expected to begin Waldorf High School Certification along a timeline discussed at the time of hire.

Maine Coast Waldorf School is seeking a full-time high school humanities teacher with expertise in English and history. This is a one-year position to cover for a colleague on leave for the 2025–2026 academic year. Any candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree within the humanities, and preferably has pursued graduate work in English/history. Teaching experience and previous work with Waldorf high school curriculum is highly desirable.

Starting August, 2025

Position: This is a full-time one-year position to cover for a colleague on leave for the 2025–2026 academic year. This position will involve teaching carving and furniture making to students in grades 4–8; as well as additional duties and meeting responsibilities (crosswalk duty, recess duty, trips, after school meetings on Thursdays, and other duties associated with a teacher-run school). The projects for grades 4–8 include:

• Grade 4—Butter knife, bird
• Grade 5—Spoons
• Grade 6—Sword
• Grade 7—Bowl
• Grade 8—Three-Legged stool

Tools used for these projects include: Slöyd knives, rasps, gouges, saws, hatchets, drawknives, spokeshaves, drills, planes, and more. This position has the responsibility for maintaining the tools and the woodshop space.

Responsibilities:

• Teach one or more middle school STEM main lesson blocks each year
• Collaborate with teachers on math education best practices 
• As scheduled, provide in-class support to teachers/students
  • E.g. lesson planning support, station support
• Work one-on-one with students whose needs go beyond the support that is offered in the classroom
• Communicate regularly with teachers and parents on student progress 
• Attend parent-teacher conferences 
• Collaborate with Ed Support team on a regular basis 
• Assess students who have been identified as having math challenges 
• In collaboration with the Ed Support team and Branch, help prioritize Grades 1–8 math support needs 
• Providing regular screenings and assessments throughout the year to G1–8 teachers, helping to administer and correct these assessments as needed
• Keep records to support year-to-year ongoing data review
• Teach up to one section of G7 Math and one section of G8 Math during the school year
• Assignment of weekly and other duties by Branch
• Attending Subject, Branch, and Full Faculty meetings and professional development
• Work with MCWS grades 1–9 Scope and Sequence, helping teachers to navigate its philosophy and supplement its lessons with additional materials

• A Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field.

General Summary: 

Be generally or occasionally available on an on-call/as needed basis to provide support to lead teacher(s) in implementing a Waldorf Early Childhood curriculum.

Essential job responsibilities:

• Be a supportive caring presence in accordance to our philosophy of child development for the children in our care

• Preparing food for snack and/or lunch

• Providing classroom and program support 

• Assisting children with going to the bathroom and/or changing soiled clothing as needed

• Helping children get dressed for outside play

• Maintaining order and cleanliness in classroom and common areas of the EC building

• Cleaning and preparing rooms/spaces for the next school day, with tasks such as vacuuming, dish washing, food preparation and storage, dusting, and laundry.

• Working with colleagues to support and monitor safe and healthy outdoor play 

• Must be able to easily lift up to 40 pounds.

Compensation: $21.48/hour.

Lower School Substitutes Needed

General Summary: 

Maine Coast Waldorf School is looking for substitute teachers for grades 1-8 who have either experience with Waldorf Education or have previously worked as a substitute in elementary or middle schools. Candidates should be generally or occasionally available on an on-call/as needed basis.

Essential job responsibilities:

• Be a supportive, caring presence in accordance to our philosophy of child development for the children in our care
• Follow the provided lesson plans as closely as possible
• Show flexibility in dealing with the unexpected
• When possible, be in communication with the absent teacher ahead of time to ask questions
• Provide a brief report of how the lesson/day went afterwards, either verbally or in writing
• Maintain order and cleanliness in classroom and common areas 
• Work with colleagues to support and monitor safe and healthy outdoor play 

Compensation: $21.48/hour.
