Position: A Lead full-time teacher in our mixed-age kindergarten program for the 2024/2025 academic year, beginning in August 2024. The Lead Teacher will have the support of an assistant, and other lead teachers in adjoining early childhood classes. Our early childhood program is housed in a custom, straw-bale-constructed Early Childhood Center, situated on 80 beautiful acres, where our program offers ample outdoor experiences including a forest day.

Qualifications, Salary and Benefits: Ideal candidates have completed a WECAN-approved early childhood training, a bachelor’s degree, and have at least two years of Waldorf mixed-age kindergarten teaching experience as a lead teacher and a commitment to working out of Anthroposophy. Maine Coast Waldorf School is accepting applications for a full-time class teacher to begin for the Fall 2024 term.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates are Waldorf-trained teachers with a Bachelor degree, at least two years of teaching experience and a commitment to working out of Anthroposophy. Position: A full-time French Language teacher to hold the French curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 8.

Qualifications, Salary and Benefits: Candidates are sought with experience with teaching children from Kindergarten through 8th Grade in French from a games, movement, and conversational-based approach. Candidates must have earned a bachelor’s degree. Ideal candidates have experience teaching in a Waldorf school. Position: A full-time movement teacher to hold the movement curriculum for grades 2–12.

Qualifications, Salary and Benefits: Candidates are sought with experience in leading a developmentally-appropriate movement curriculum including, but not limited to Spacial Dynamics® and Eurythmy. Individuals who do not have these experiences but have interest in Waldorf education and come with skills in developmentally-appropriate movement in grades 1–12 are encouraged to apply. Position Description for Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

 

General Summary: 

Provide support to lead teacher(s) in implementing a Waldorf Early Childhood curriculum consistent with the principles of Waldorf Education, while satisfying the school’s standards for competence and effectiveness in teaching.

Essential job responsibilities and specific aspects of this work will be determined and clearly communicated via the lead teachers and EC branch chair, but may include the following:

• Be a supportive caring presence in accordance to our philosophy of child development for the children in our care

• Regular attendance to fulfill scheduled job responsibilities

• Preparing food for snack and/or lunch

• Providing classroom and program support 

• Assisting children with going to the bathroom and/or changing soiled clothing as needed

• Helping children get dressed for outside play

• Maintaining order and cleanliness in classroom and common areas of the EC building

• Cleaning and preparing rooms/spaces for the next school day, with tasks such as vacuuming, dish washing, food preparation and storage, dusting, and laundry.

• Working with colleagues to support and monitor safe and healthy outdoor play 

Additional expectations:

• Know, represent and uphold the school’s rules and standards for conduct for yourself and the children, as outlined in the MCWS Employee Handbook and the Early Childhood Handbook;

• Participate in weekly mentoring and/or Early Childhood Branch meetings (Tuesdays from 3:30–4:30);

• Work cooperatively and support other EC faculty and the department as a whole. Be an upstanding, integral member of our community.

• Accurately record and report hours worked to the Business Office for payroll purposes

• Must be able to easily lift up to 40 pounds.

• This position has several conditions that should be evaluated by potential applicants in determining if this is the right fit. Child care staff are very likely to be exposed to a variety of illnesses. 

• There are daily times in which the children are outdoors in all weather, and this position will be outdoors in rain, sleet, snow, muddy, or icy conditions. 

• This position will be expected to help with employee child care needs during parent/teacher conferences and all-school professional development offerings throughout the year when the professional development offering does not pertain to the early childhood assistant role. 

 
Schedule: Anticipated approximately 20 hours per week with the possibility of picking up additional shifts. Hours are M-F when school is in session, 8am–Noon.
