The High School has felt a bit quieter over the past week, as the senior class has left temporarily to pursue an internship opportunity.
This is a long-standing spring tradition for the senior class since the inception of our High School. These exciting opportunities for on-the-job experiences give our students a sense of the workplace and a chance to explore possible life paths as they prepare for the next steps in their lives.
“The biggest belief for the High School is that there is a movement from form to freedom,” explains High School Chair David Barham. “We hold our ninth graders quite tightly and prescribe what they’re doing.”
By the time senior year comes around, however, there are many more opportunities for freedom—including opportunities to do senior projects, independent studies, and internships. “That whole picture is how we view these internships—students are able to take more responsibility for their whole education.”
We look forward to welcoming our seniors back to campus in early May—until then, we wish them luck in their internship experience!
