The Joy of the Pen is an annual local writing contest sponsored by the Topsham Library. This year—as in past years—Maine Coast Waldorf School was well-represented; two current students, junior Piper Staples and third grader Opal Reinhart, a current high school teacher, as well as a teacher “emeritus,” all received recognition.

Piper Staples won the TPL Teen Poetry Award for “The Girl in the Willows”

Opal Reinhart won the TPL Kids Poetry Award for “Cat”

High School Teacher John Reinhart won the Just Write Maine-related Nonfiction Award for “One More Ride”

High School Emeritus Teacher David Sloan won an honorable mention for “Flames”

Former student Lydia Cabot also won a TPL Kids Fiction Award for “Ruby and the Magical Violin”

Congratulations to all for their good work!
