A number of juniors and seniors were sworn in as election officials (which was a really moving little moment!) and then helped the town of Freeport count absentee ballots (at the Town Hall on Friday, February 28) and aid primary voters at Freeport High School on primary election day, March 3rd.
Every student came back excited and proud to have taken part in this civic responsibility. They spoke of a deeper understanding of the voting process and were awed by the long lines at the polling station. The town of Freeport and the high school are very excited for our students to serve again as election officials for the November 2020 election. This is a new endeavor for us at the high school and special thanks to parent and junior class coordinator Mary Veerkamp for getting us in touch with Christine Wolfe at the Freeport Town Hall and setting this in motion.
Students included seniors Otto Wolyniec, Kipling Samuelson, Grace Sanford, Myah Garrison, Ava Teegarden, Miles Lloyd and juniors Lauren Eichler, Sophie Roberts Fishman, Evelyn Lukis, Clara Bossi, Finn Veerkamp and Aidan Stark-Chessa.
Democracy is a verb!
