High School Counselor Needed!

New Employment Opportunity: High School Counselor position beginning fall 2019
This position provides leadership and coordination for Maine Coast Waldorf School’s high school counseling services, and ensures that the school’s policies and procedures reflect current best practices. It includes providing direct counseling services to students in grades 9-12, (total enrollment 65-70) through one-on-one sessions, small group work, and regular class meetings. The High School Counselor identifies resources and gives guidance to faculty, staff and parents as needed, to address and respond to issues relating to student mental health and well-being. This position also regularly collaborates with the lower school counselor.
This is a half-time salaried position, but expected to grow. This position includes some required after-school meetings.
Required Skills:
1. A deep understanding and appreciation for adolescents.
2. Well-developed counseling skills grounded in Evidence Based Practice.
3. The ability to form and maintain positive relationships with all constituents: students,
parents, and colleagues.
4. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
5. An interest in incorporating Waldorf principles with their counseling work.
Required Qualification:
1. Current clinical licensure (LCSW, LCPC, PhD, PsyD) in Maine, or the ability to become
licensed in Maine by start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. A Master’s degree in a related field (school counseling, counseling, social work,
psychology)
2. Five years of related professional experience.
3. Experience working in an educational setting.
