Maine Coast Waldorf Receives NEFA grant for Circus Smirkus Freeport’s Magic Matinee

We are thrilled to announce that Maine Coast Waldorf School is a recipient of a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), funded in part by the New England States Touring program. This grant is one of 83 grants totaling $371,995 awarded to artists and nonprofit organizations to support public presentations and engagement activities in communities of all sizes and reach all six New England states. The grants are made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional support from the six New England state arts agencies.

MCWS was awarded this grant specifically for the Magic Matinee Program associated with Circus Smirkus Freeport for their extensive outreach and partnership with several local social service agencies in the Mid Coast and Portland areas. This program has made it possible for thousands of low income children to attend a Circus Smirkus Freeport performance.  It has become a much anticipated summer highlight for children who would not otherwise be able to share in the magic of the circus and be inspired by young performers. It has sought out children with disabilities, and medical issues such as children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, plus children from other organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and The Boys and Girls Club. We are most grateful for this state and federally funded grant and the impact it will have on our Magic Matinee Program.
