On February 13th the snow and snow day could not keep the performers and audience away! Coffee House 2019 was a resounding success and the packed Community Hall was a sparkling and creative community space for the night. While the Coffeehouse was once largely teacher directed, the students now give the evening its shape and meaning. In addition to the poems and essays that were once the majority of the evening, this year, students shared gymnastics and Lyra acts, did comedy sketches that were actually laugh out loud funny and sang and played a wide range of music that were truly moving. The place was packed and the audience was utterly tuned in to the performers- although the incredible cakes, cookies and pies also took up much of the attention.
The money raised from the sale of goodies goes to the high school activities fund to help with various activities, bringing in speakers, trip costs and more.
If you have never been to the High School Coffee House, be sure to put in on your calendar for next year and partake, not just in the food and talent, but in the warmth of community on a cold winter’s night. Often on the school stage the students are singing in the chorus, playing in the band or orchestra or taking up a role in a play. At the Coffee House, the students play their most important role: themselves.
