On Friday, October 6th, MCWS welcomed Fryeburg, Poland and Yarmouth to the weekly cross country meet on the Oak Hill trails at Pineland. While it rained earlier in the day, by race time we were back to blue skies and sun, a very pleasant afternoon for the runners and spectators.
The girls raced first, with our own Olivia Reynolds crossing the finish line first and setting a new PR. Other MCWS runners in the top 10 were Olivia Skillings (3) and Mamie Whittier (8). Overall the girls team placed second behind Fryeburg. On the boys side, we landed five runners in the top 10 – Nick Neveu (2), Matinicus Neveu (5), Finn Dierks-Brown (6), Aiden Kusche (8) and Eli Gundersen (10), and a first place score for the team.
We have now reached the end of the regular season weekly Western Maine Conference races, where just a few teams participate at each venue, and are entering the championship season. This coming week we travel to Standish for the WMC Championship races on Friday afternoon at St. Joseph’s College, where all WMC schools race together. In the following weeks we will be running at Twin Brook in Cumberland for the state regional races on October 21 and (hopefully) the state championships on October 28. Keep track of team happenings, race times, etc. on the team blog, found at http://mcwsxcrunningteam.blogspot.com/.
