Maine Coast Waldorf senior Thomas McLaughlin and sophomore Finn Dierks-Brown attended the Maine All-State Music Festival held at the University of Maine at Orono May 18-20. They were selected by audition from hundreds of students across the state who auditioned for this incredible musical experience. The students had the wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and make music with others who are also dedicated to their craft. The sounds coming from Minsky Hall from the mixed chorus of more than 100 singers was truly amazing.
Our students rehearsed and performed under the direction of the fantastic musical educator Dr. Robert Russell. Dr. Russell has been the director of choral programs at the University of Southern Maine for more than 20 years. He is currently the director of the Choral Arts Society in Portland. Finn and Thomas also enjoyed some down time and were able to see Mr. Chasse perform with 45 other teachers in the Director’s Band and shake it up a bit watching the Motor Booty Affair, a well known 70’s Disco Hit’s Dance Band.
When asked about the experience Thomas McLaughlin reported, “All-State was a wonderful experience. It was so nice to be around so many people who have a deep passion for music. Dr Russell was incredibly inspirational. He has motivated me to be prepared for the next adventure in my life!”
Congratulations Thomas and Finn!
