This past Wednesday, the ski team joined all WMC schools at Stark’s Hill in Fryeburg for the first WMC classic race of the season. It was an exciting time, with our coaches waxing 24 pairs of skis in just two hours, but well worth the trip. Highlights of the day on the boys side included a first place finish for Tucker Pierce, Nick Neveu(8) and Eli Gundersen (9) rounding out the top 10, and the boys team taking first place honors. Similarly, on the girls side we had Olivia Skillings in first, Louise Ahearne (4) and Caitlin Keliher (10) in the top 10, and the girls team also coming in first place. One other noteworthy accomplishment of the day goes to Eliza Mathis, who skied in her first Nordic race ever!
This next week brings us to the WMC Championships, a two part series of races, where the first race is skate and the second, a few days later, is classic. The first race is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, but due to weather, may get moved up to Tuesday, February 7 or perhaps even pushed back to Saturday, meaning both skate and classic would take place on Saturday in Fryeburg. As always, team members and parents should continue to check the team blog on a daily basis for info about changes in race days, practice times, locations and other details as they come up.
