BRAVO Maine Coast Waldorf School!

Guess What? We did it! Your generosity has helped our community reach our $4.1 million fundraising goal for the One Campaign! THANK YOU!

90% of current parents contributed to the largest capital campaign in our school’s 31-year history. And we did it with gusto—in just shy of a year from organizing the One Campaign’s volunteer leadership.

The One Campaign Cabinet convened for its first meeting (January 21, 2016) to design a plan of how best to bring the community together in celebration and collaboration to raise the money we would need to realize our collective vision for a unified campus. And it was a lot of money.

On Leap Day (February 29, 2016), our “Look Back, Leap Forward” event brought together founders, alumni families and students, faculty, staff, current parents and the newly formed One Campaign Cabinet to celebrate the future of what can be, while giving thanks to the solid foundation of what has been.

Extraordinary giving in the silent phase of the Campaign included a $1 million grant from The Windover Foundation. With that, we announced that we’d raised $3.8 million in pledges and gifts at the “Breaking New Ground” event on September 16. As we opened the public phase of the Campaign, a legendary phone-a-thon helped us reach out to each parent in the school, launching a series of one-on-one meetings and discussions that lasted through the end of the year.

In late October, we received more wonderful news: a $100,000 challenge gift offered by a grandparent to help us reach our fundraising goal by the end of 2016. That powerful incentive, followed by numerous heartfelt expressions of what our school means to our hardworking families, beautifully captured in a letter penned by Steve Sinisi, did the trick! Words can’t express how grateful we are for the families who challenged and motivated us to push on toward our goal.

As we begin 2017, your gifts toward our fundraising goal have ensured a unified campus at Maine Coast Waldorf School. What’s more, we will build the necessary infrastructure to secure a lasting vision of our collective future. Like so many projects in life, especially those as ambitious in scope and purpose as ours, more can always be done. Additional funding needs still exist, and we will continue fundraising to address these needs. Only a community as committed as ours, with its deeply philanthropic roots, can support this amazing growth.

Countless thanks for the support, time, and energy given by our One Campaign team! These parents and faculty selflessly gave so much of themselves to organize and build enthusiasm amongst their peers, colleagues and friends for this mission. Not an easy task or a comfortable one for many, but they did it—and more! We would have never reached our goal without their heroic efforts. So if you see one of them in your travels, please extend a handshake or hug. They earned it!

We owe Melissa Hoy an extra debt of gratitude for her exceptional organization, spreadsheet mastery and remarkable ability to keep the communication lines flowing among so many of us. We are also grateful for the wise guidance and mentoring of our campaign consultant, Mary Sylvester. We can think of no better champion for our cause.

Our cause brings us to you, the most important members of our team. Together, we can embrace and celebrate this truly inspired level of generosity, generosity that springs from the heart and soul of our community. Thank you—from all of us—for being part of this thrilling transition for our school as we unite our campus and build our future. Stay tuned for news of ribbon cutting ceremonies to celebrate our progress as well as updates about how our fundraising continues. Until then, we offer our deepest admiration and endless gratitude.
