When MCWS High School students heard about the plight of Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world hit by hurricane Matthew last October, they decided to do something to help. Among the villages and schools destroyed was a small Waldorf School, Ecole du Village, founded 11 years ago by a former Waldorf Student, Myriam Silien and a Haitian friend.
One hundred thirty children were attending the Waldorf school and kindergarten. The tin huts and the vegetable garden were totally devastated. To help in the reconstruction of the school, we decided to start a fundraising campaign. A few students from a HS Mentor group designed a couple of posters and the High School started a fundraising campaign. All together, we were able to collect $438 which we sent to a donation account at a bank recommended by “Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiner.”
We are looking forward to hearing about the progress of reconstruction of Ecole du Village. We hope the Haitian children will profit from the loving thoughts and little financial help provided by our generous students. We shall let the MCWS Community know when we have some news about our brothers and sisters at the Haiti Waldorf school.
Our heartfelt thanks to all of those who helped in this sad situation.
