High School Cross Country News

You might think with grades 9-12 having been away on trips last week that not much was going on in the world of high school cross country, however it’s turned out to have been a big week.  In the Friday edition of the Portland Press Herald, our own Tucker Pierce received Honorable Mention in the Athlete of the Week section, where high performing athletes are recognized for their accomplishments.

On Saturday, the cross country team headed down east to participate in the Belfast Festival of Champions, the largest cross country race in the state.  This year the weather proved ideal for running, gray skies and temperatures in the 50s, and the course saw over 1500 runners in a total of six races.  By the end of the very long and full day, MCWS runners chalked up PRs for close to half the team, a top 30 finish for Olivia Skillings (over 650 runners), a top 10 finish for Tucker, top 40 finishes for Nick Neveu and Dylan Wu (over 850 runners), a very respectable 30th place for the girls team (58 teams total) and, in the shocker of the day, 10th place for the boys team (61 teams total).

Thank yous go out to all the parents and students that traveled to support the team, and especially to Coach Morgan Lake Adams and Assistant Coach Justin Miers for guiding the team all season.  For more complete results, check the team blog atmcwsxcrunningteam.blogspot.com/.  Runners and their parents are also reminded to regularly check the blog for updates on races, practices and other info.
