Maine Coast Waldorf School’s first combined Grandparents Day and May Faire last Friday was truly a special day. It began with a wonderful presentation to grandparents by MCWS alum Liza Simmons (Class of 2012) and was followed by lovely class offerings from grades 2 through 12. As the grandparents exited the Community Hall the procession to the May Pole began, followed by May Pole dancing, pole weaving, 6th grade sword dancing, and ended with the stamping of the earth. May Faire attendees were then treated to delicious sausage, savories and sweets on the center green, accompanied by lively music from students and faculty!
Many volunteers were instrumental in making this day so successful. We’d like to express our thanks and appreciation to the volunteers who helped on Friday morning with the Faire set-up, as well as with Grandparents Day. Thank you also to the many volunteers who planned behind the scenes for the May Faire lunch. A special thank you goes out to the teachers who put extra time into organizing two events on one school day, which was no small feat. This is a testament to the thought and preparation taken by the whole community so this day could remain special for grandparents and students alike.
